Multimedia university is diversely known for its prowess in technological innovations and producing high standards media practitioners today. However, there is a lot more outside these walls of innovations and media, sports. It has become one of the main areas the institution focus on with numerous sports emerging and accelerating in the recent past including hockey, football, handball, wood ball and basketball among others. Basketball has become the most influential and prominent game in the institution amassing large crowds and new talents.
The basketball court is always active with people attempting free throws whenever they are not in classes. The court is located just besides the lady’s hostels who watch from the comfort of their rooms for the beautiful game. Basketball is widely cherished in the US with giants such as Golden State Warriors and Cleveland dominating in the past three years. And definitely when you talk about basketball, people first pictures Le Bron James or Steph Curry, the current enigmas of the game.
It is around 4.30 pm when a huge, dark skinned gentleman carrying two balls in the arm and in a pair of Jordan walks in the court, he is the coach. Players arrive and hastily change to their kits. They assemble to say a word of prayer and take a few laps, jogging and stretches. Both ladies and men train together under this man’s instruction.
“Let’s go, let’s go, come on guys we have been training on this since Monday and you are not showing me what I want to see,” exclaims coach in a rather harsh way suggesting how serious he is in what he undertakes. The players seem to have a good rapport with him. It is around 6.30 and everyone seems tired. They plead with the coach to continue the next day. Well, basketball is one of the fastest games that require a lot of energy and endurance which is gained from this hard training.
They give each other ‘hi fives’ giggle and change. The training session is over, they say a word of prayer again and part with joy for their various destinations.
